Beyoncé and Taylor Swift win big at the Grammys

Singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift came away as big winners at the annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. 

Swift won album of the year for “Folklore,” which she recorded and produced while in quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic. It was her third time winning the prize. 

Beyoncé took home four awards, breaking the record for the most Grammy wins by a female artist and most by a singer. She now has 28 Grammys. 

This year, Beyoncé won best R&B performance for her song “Black Parade” and best rap performance for a collaboration with rapper Megan Thee Stallion for “Savage.” 

Megan Thee Stallion won best new artist on Sunday night and “Savage” won best rap song. 

With her win for “Folklore,” Swift became the first woman to win album of the year three times, a feat only achieved by Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. 

Every major award on Sunday night was won by a female artist. 

The annual awards show, originally scheduled for late January, was delayed this year due to ongoing health concerns stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. 

This year’s event was hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, who made fun of the Jan. 6 insurrection in Washington, D.C., as he opened the show. 

“Tonight is going to be the biggest outdoor event this year besides the storming of the Capitol,” Noah said.
