Emmy nominees share DC theme
Shows about Washington and politics are once again raking in the Emmy nominations.
{mosads}The contenders for 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday.
Among the nominees for outstanding drama are Netflix political thriller “House of Cards,” in which Kevin Spacey plays a sinister fictional president, and Showtime’s CIA saga, “Homeland.” The two shows will face off against “Better Call Saul,” “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones,” “Mad Men” and “Orange is the New Black.”
Spacey picked up an Outstanding Actor in a Drama nod for his “House of Cards” role, while Robin Wright, who plays his wife on the show, was nominated in the Outstanding Actress category. Claire Danes, a two-time Emmy winner, also received a nomination.
HBO’s “Veep” was among the Emmy hopefuls in the Outstanding Comedy category, with its star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in the running for her fourth consecutive win for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Tony Hale of “Veep” and Keegan-Michael Key of Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele” will be going head-to-head with four other nominees in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. Key made waves in Washington in April when he made a surprise appearance onstage at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner as President Obama’s “anger translator.”
The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards show airs on Fox on Sept. 20.
