‘House of Lies’ first US series heading to Cuba
Hollywood will film a television series from Cuba this year — the first time since diplomatic relations thawed between the United States and the communist island.
Showtime’s “House of Lies” is setting its fifth season finale in and around the Carribean nation’s capital city, according to Deadline.
{mosads}The cast of the dark comedy series is arriving in the country next week and shooting scenes mainly focusing on Havana, it said Wednesday.
“House of Lies” details the wheeling and dealing of a cutthroat business management consulting firm. Actor Don Cheadle, the program’s star and executive producer, said Wednesday he is excited about visiting America’s former Cold War rival.
“Marty and the pod have traveled the world to land clients,” he said, referencing his character Marty Kaan and his “pod” of associates.
“But this historic trip to Cuba is definitely Kaan & Associates’ biggest and wildest adventure yet. It’s sure to be one for the record books, for both our characters and for our cast and crew.”
“House of Lies” is complying with all U.S. laws regarding Cuba while setting foot on its soil, Deadline reported.
The show secured an Office of Foreign Assets Control license in compliance with the Treasury Department before scheduling its shoot, it added.
The series follows other American programming that has taken advantage of warmer ties with Cuba.
Discovery’s reality series “Cuban Chrome” was shot entirely on location there, Deadline said. TBS, meanwhile, recorded an episode of its late-night talk show “Conan” on the island.
Showtime additionally announced Wednesday that comedians Wanda Sykes and Keegan Michael-Key were making guest appearances during the show’s next season. The comics are appearing in separate episodes before the Cuban finale.
The Obama administration announced in December 2014 that it was softening America’s stance towards Cuba.
The U.S. has since re-established diplomatic ties with its former rival while also easing economic restrictions there.
