Kevin Spacey finds 2016 race ‘amusing’

Actor Kevin Spacey says he finds the 2016 race “amusing” and believes the fictional character he portrays, President Frank Underwood, would too.

“I mean, Frank Underwood would look at this particular year and find it as amusing as I do,” said the star of Netflix’s “House of Cards.”

{mosads}“At the end of the day, the United States has time and again — despite sometimes when we think there’s some crazy shit going down — we generally get it right eventually,” Spacey added during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, according to Deadline.

Spacey also sees similarities between GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump and former Gov. George Wallace (D-Ala.) an outspoken segregationist.

“I think in the first place that Donald Trump — uh, sorry, that Frank Underwood,” he began to say, prompting uproarious laughter, according to The Associated Press.

“It’s exactly the same campaign,” Spacey said of Trump’s bid and Wallace’s own independent campaign in 1968. “I mean, exactly the same.”

Spacey also revealed that he adores the positive feedback “House of Cards” receives from lawmakers.

“When I talk to politicians, some will say it’s completely fictional and others will say it’s closer to the truth than anyone would like to know,” he said.

Netflix began promoting its fourth season of “House of Cards” last month in a series of ads starring Spacey as Underwood.

An online spot released on Dec. 16, 2015, shows Spacey’s character celebrating his ascension into the White House.

“It’s a new day in America,” a narrator boasts in the 30-second clip.

“Today, more people will go to work, return home to their families and sleep more soundly than ever before — all because one man refuses to settle, putting people before politics. That man is Frank Underwood.”

“America, I’m only getting started,” Spacey boasts in character while sitting behind a desk in the Oval Office.

The latest season of “House of Cards” premieres March 4. It stars Spacey as a devious political mastermind scheming his way into the presidency.
