Stephen Curry backs Clinton, will stand for anthem

NBA star Stephen Curry says he prefers Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump during this year’s general presidential election.

“Hillary,” he responded when asked which White House hopeful he favors late Tuesday, according to The Mercury News.

{mosads}The Mercury News said Curry’s remark came during a question-and-answer session at TechCrunch Disrupt on Pier 48 in San Francisco.

Curry did not elaborate on why he picked Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, over Trump, her GOP counterpart.

Curry also said he would not likely copy San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem.

Kaepernick has demonstrated against policy brutality toward minorities by sitting or kneeling during the “Star-Spangled Banner” since last month.

“I’ll most likely stand,” Curry said Tuesday when quizzed over whether he would emulate Kaepernick’s actions.

“I’ve been a part of certain conversations off the grid, finding different ways to make our community better, especially for African-Americans,” the Golden State Warriors point guard added. “That’s not the way I’ll do it. But I support him in his attempt to start the conversation or continue the conversation.”

Curry added he understands the public scrutiny Kaepernick faces while campaigning for racial justice, however.

“Colin, if you follow the way he talks, the message he’s trying to send with his act, he’s not, from his mouth, disrespecting the veterans or the military,” he said. “That’s not his intention.”

“You just have to be true to yourself and understand both sides of the equation and be OK with the consequences, like Colin is,” Curry added of his own celebrity.

“My approach is not going to please everyone and that’s what America is about. Some people agree with Colin, some don’t. But the common thread is that there is change that needs to be made.”
