Roland Martin: Sen. Paul ‘needs an absolute makeover’

He added, “I’m offering my services to Sen. Rand Paul to step his fashion game up because — look, I’m from Texas, his dad is from Texas, so I can help the son out.”

While he’s quick to critique Paul’s sense of style, he did have kind words for two House Democrats when ITK caught up with Martin at Tuesday’s National Cable and Telecommunications Association Chairman’s Reception hosted by A+E at the National Portrait Gallery.

“[Rep.] John Conyers (Mich.) is a snappy dresser. [Rep.] Charlie Rangel (N.Y.) as well. Those guys have style,” Martin said.

Martin, 44, says he appreciates Conyers’ fondness for color. He then exclaimed of Rangel that he’s “all about the pocket square. He’s always working that game, too.”

However a wardrobe staple of Rangel’s does not get the former CNN contributor’s seal of approval: “He loves the two-tone shirts. I’m not too fond of that.” Martin said he’d let Rangel off the hook for the shirt choice since the two are fraternity brothers.

Among the other (ascot-less) guests at the packed soiree to kick off the National Cable and Telecommunications Association’s convention in Washington: Bravo’s Andy Cohen, actor Ricky Schroeder, Susan Lucci and Ana Ortiz from Lifetime’s “Devious Maids,” CNN’s Jake Tapper, cast members from the Sundance Channel reality show “Push Girls,” A+E Networks President and CEO Nancy Dubuc, CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo, and businessman Mark Cuban.
