‘Good Wife’ star: Weiner sexting scandal ‘the gift that keeps on giving’
“It is the gift that just keeps on giving,” Margulies said of the scandal in an interview with E! News.
“I would never want to benefit from someone else’s pain but I have been emailing [our producers] for two weeks now,” she said, calling her show “more relevant than ever.”
{mosads}Margulies plays the wife of a politician who is caught in a sex scandal.
Weiner is seeking to revive his political career by running for New York City mayor. But his campaign has been battered after he admitted last week that he continued to send lewd messages to women online, long after the same behavior forced him from Congress in 2011.
Margulies said she “can’t imagine” that the Weiner scandal, as well as details about disgraced former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D), won’t influence the show’s season five storyline. Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 due to a prostitution scandal, is now running for New York City comptroller.
Like Margulies character on the show, Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, has decided to stick by her husband, publicly defending him.
She said the public should be careful not to speculate about Abedin’s decision.
“We don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors,” she said.
