Obama memorably called Harris “by far, the best looking attorney general” during remarks at a fundraiser in California earlier this year, drawing criticism from some who suggested the remark marginalized her professional accomplishments. The president later called Harris to apologize.

The first couple spent about two hours at the cocktail reception before heading to the State Road Restaurant for a lengthy meal. The White House did not reveal who the Obamas dined with for the better part of three hours, saying simply the Obamas were with friends.
