D.L. Hughley rips Trump: ‘A liar doesn’t deserve respect’
Comedian D.L. Hughley says even though Donald Trump is the commander in chief, “a liar doesn’t deserve respect,” so he won’t be showing much to the president.
“Respect is a two-way street,” the former host of CNN’s “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” told TMZ in a video interview posted Monday. “I give it to you because I got it.”
“I think if the president were respect-worthy, you should do it. But I think in all the things he’s done – just this week, accusing a man, a former president, of a felony. He’s lied. A liar doesn’t deserve respect like that.”
{mosads}Trump claimed earlier this month in a tweet that Trump Tower was wiretapped by the Obama administration during the 2016 election.
“We have two intelligence agencies investigating what he knows is a lie, because you think you can lie on a black man,” Hughley, 54, said. “F–k your respect.”
Although expressing a fondness for fellow comic Steve Harvey, Hughley challenged recent remarks from the radio and daytime talk show host.
“There’s an office in this country called the president, and you have to respect the office,” Harvey — who met with then-president-elect Trump in January to discuss urban development — said on his radio show.
“I love Steve, I do not agree,” Hughley said.
Hughley added of Trump, “The thing about this cat is he talks to rappers, and actors, and comedians, pretending to give a shit about the problems in the black community.”
“Why doesn’t he just talk to David Copperfield, a magician, so he can make them all go away?” Hughley exclaimed. “But I think you only give respect when you get it. And he’s been disrespectful to just about everybody, except the white supremacists who serve him.”
