Super Bowl betting gets decidedly political twist

The Super Bowl is getting political before the pigskin even hits the field, with at least one sports betting site taking wagers on President Trump’s presence during the big game.

The site, BetDSI, allows users to place wagers on everything from whether Trump will be in attendance at Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4 to whether “Filthy” singer Justin Timberlake will use the commander in chief’s name during his halftime performance.

The White House indicated to NBC News that Trump will break the presidential tradition of taking part in a Super Bowl pregame interview with the network hosting the event, Variety reported last week, citing a “person familiar with the matter.”

Trump did participate in a pregame interview last year with then-Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.

The oddsmakers at BetDSI predict there’s a better chance of Trump skipping an interview and not being in Minneapolis for the game. It also has an even split when it comes to Trump speaking out on Twitter, with 2.5 tweets from Trump during the game listed as the over/under.

Better odds are put on none of the players from either the New England Patriots or the Philadelphia Eagles taking a knee during the national anthem. Trump has fiercely criticized players who kneel in protest at NFL games, suggesting last year that they should be fired. The movement was started in 2016 by former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick to protest police misconduct and racial injustice.
