Cardi B: I’ll perform at Super Bowl halftime show ‘when they hire Colin Kaepernick back’

Rapper Cardi B said Saturday that she will not perform at a Super Bowl halftime show unless NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick gets hired by a team.

The Grammy-nominated musician told TMZ on Saturday that she would do the halftime performance “when they hire Colin Kaepernick back.”

Kaepernick garnered national attention in 2016 when he started kneeling during the national anthem as a means of protesting racial injustice in the U.S. {mosads}

Cardi B has voiced her support for Kaepernick in the past on Twitter.

President Trump further magnified the issue of kneeling during the national anthem last year, when he said NFL owners should fire players who kneel during the anthem.

“Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he’s fired.” Trump said of kneeling players at a rally in Alabama in September.

He continued his attacks on Twitter throughout the season last year.

The president called on Americans to honor the military and stand for the anthem on Sunday ahead of the game.

“Their sacrifice is stitched into each star and every stripe of our Star-Spangled Banner,” Trump said. “We hold them in our hearts and thank them for our freedom as we proudly stand for the National Anthem.”
