Lana Del Rey rips Kanye: Your support of Trump is a ‘loss for the culture’
Singer Lana Del Rey tore into Kanye West over his support for President Trump, calling it “a loss for the culture.”
Del Rey, who performed at West’s wedding to Kim Kardashian, left a comment on an Instagram post in which the rapper wrote that Trump’s “Make America Great Again” message represents “America becoming whole again.”
“Trump becoming our president was a loss for the country but your support of him is a loss for the culture,” Del Rey wrote. “I can only assume you relate to his personality on some level. Delusions of grandeur, extreme issues with narcissism — none of which would be a talking point if we weren’t speaking about the man leading our country.”
She added that she thinks West and Trump both need “an intervention,” and invoked Trump’s comments about women from the “Access Hollywood” tape.
{mosads}“If you think it’s alright to support someone who believes it’s OK to grab a woman by the pussy just because he’s famous then you need an intervention as much as he does — something so many narcissists will never get because there just isn’t enough help for the issue,” Del Rey wrote. “Message sent with concern that will never be addressed.”
West’s post and Del Rey’s comment came hours after a video surfaced of West delivering a pro-Trump message onstage at “Saturday Night Live.”
“There’s so many times I talk to, like, a white person about this and they say, ‘How could you like Trump? He’s racist,’ ” West said, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. “Well, uh, if I was concerned about racism, I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”
West has repeatedly defended his support for the president while often making controversial statements about politics and race. In his Sunday Instagram post and on Twitter, West criticized the 13th amendment, which abolished slavery.
“We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs,” West wrote. “We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.”
He added later that he wants to “amend” the 13th Amendment, and wrote that it is “slavery in disguise.”
Trump praised West’s off-air speech on “Saturday Night Live,” tweeting that while he thinks the show is “a political ad for the Dems,” West is “leading the charge.”
“Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told ‘no’), was great,” Trump wrote. “He’s leading the charge!”
