Browns GM says Condoleezza Rice has not been discussed in head coaching search

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is not being considered for the position of head coach of the Cleveland Browns, according to the team’s general manager.

“Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great leader, possesses the highest possible character and also happens to be a Browns fan,” general manager John Dorsey wrote in a statement released Sunday.

“I have the utmost respect and admiration for all she’s accomplished and was honored to meet her for the first time earlier this season.”

“Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed,” he concluded.

{mosads}Dorsey said last week he was open to hiring a woman for the post and an unidentified source pointed ESPN specifically to Rice as a possible candidate.

“She’s an amazing person,” a team source told ESPN regarding Rice.

Rice was previously rumored as a potential NFL commissioner.

She also served on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee until 2016.

The league has never had a woman interview for a head coaching job, though a number of women occupy top decisionmaking roles.
