Ex-NBA star John Salley to co-host PETA’s annual ‘Congressional Veggie Dog Lunch’
Famished Capitol Hill staffers and lawmakers could score a slam dunk this week for their stomachs: It’s time for PETA’s annual “Congressional Veggie Dog Lunch.”
Former NBA champion John Salley will be on-hand Wednesday for the 23rd annual event hosted by the animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
{mosads}“Whether you’re looking to assist animals or experience a health rebound, veggie dogs can be your MVP,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a pun-filled statement about the annual food giveaway, which is timed to counter National Hot Dog Day and a hot dog lunch hosted by the North American Meat Institute held on the same day.
PETA and Salley — who played on an array of winning teams, including the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls — will be serving up Beyond Meat sausages for the event.
The vegan versions of the lunchtime nosh will be given away by PETA starting at noon Wednesday outside the Rayburn House Office Building.
