Bruce Springsteen’s son sworn in as firefighter in New Jersey

Iconic singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen’s son Sam Springsteen officially became a Jersey City firefighter Tuesday as one of 15 new recruits sworn in by Mayor Steven Fulop (D), according to CBS2.

The younger Springsteen, 26, passed the civil service exam in 2017 after graduating from Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014 and volunteering at three different firehouses. None of Bruce Springsteen’s three children with his fellow E Street Band member Patti Scialfa have followed their parents into show business.

“It was a long road, he’s very dedicated, quite a few years and we are just excited for him today,” the elder Springsteen, who attended the ceremony with Scialfa, told the station.

Sam Springsteen’s father has built his musical career on songs depicting the struggles and emotions of blue-collar workers, including the title track of his 2002 album “The Rising,” sung from the perspective of a New York City firefighter responding to the 9/11 attacks.

However, during his one-man Broadway residency, he quipped, “I’ve never worked nine to five. I’ve never worked five days a week until right now. I don’t like it.”
