Weinstein hospitalized after being found guilty of rape

Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized in New York City on Monday when he complained of chest pains after he was convicted of a criminal sexual act and third-degree rape, ABC7 reported.

Weinstein, who was supposed to be transferred to Rikers Island after his court appearance, was strapped to a stretcher in the back of an ambulance and taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital for complaints of chest pains, heart palpitations and high blood pressure, CNN reported.

He was admitted Monday night and “is OK,” his attorney, Donna Rotunno, said.

Weinstein’s publicist told the CNN that the verdict would be appealed. The former media mogul was acquitted on more serious charges of predatory sexual assault and rape in the first degree.

Jurors had deliberated for more than 26 hours ahead of their verdict on Monday. Last week, jurors indicated to the trial’s judge that they were split on the most serious charges against Weinstein.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance lauded the “courageous” women who came forward in the case, thanking them and saying that Weinstein had “finally been held accountable for crimes he committed.”

“Weinstein is a vicious, serial, sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault, trick, humiliate and silence his victims,” Vance said in remarks after the verdict was announced.

The 65-year-old, who is facing up to 25 years in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11.

He is also facing sexual misconduct charges in Los Angeles.
