Long Island Italian restaurant names linguini dish after Fauci

A clam bar in Long Island, N.Y., on Monday announced a linguini dish named after Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who has become one of the public faces of the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Peter’s Clam Bar in Island Park announced the dish, Fauci Linguini, in a statement Monday, noting that it will only be available for pickup due to social distancing recommendations against dine-in service.

“The linguini with white clam sauce shares origins with Fauci, as the sauce itself was invented in the Fauci Family’s native Sciacca, Italy,” the restaurant said in a statement Monday. “Peter’s Clam Bar will also be donating Manhattan and New England Clam Chowder to all hospital workers, nurses, and on the front lines fighting the coronavirus.”

More than 11,000 coronavirus cases, more than 20 percent of the cases in the state, were confirmed on Long Island as of Sunday, according to the Long Island Press.
