Jackie Robinson’s daughter demands Trump campaign remove her father’s image from ad

Sharon Robinson, the daughter of legendary professional baseball player Jackie Robinson, on Thursday scolded President Trump after his campaign released an ad featuring a photograph of her father.

In an early Thursday tweet, Robinson’s daughter, who is also an author, writer and educator, wrote that the late athlete’s family “strongly objects” to the campaign’s use of the image, saying: “The Trump campaign is in opposition to all that Jackie Robinson stood for and believed in.” 

“We’re insulted and demand that his image be removed!” she continued in the tweet, which also tagged the president’s official Twitter handle.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Robinson was referring to a video ad the president’s reelection campaign dropped on Tuesday. The ad features a photo of Robinson, who was the first African American player in Major League Baseball, during his time playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. 

The ad, titled “Say What You Will About America,” includes black-and-white photos of figures like Robinson, civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, suffragettes and more, and urged people not to “bet against” America, while pushing for support for Trump. 

The Hill has reached out to Trump’s campaign for comment. 

The picture appears to be the same one captured by photographer Bob Sandberg and published in 1954. That photo is credited to the Library of Congress on its page.
