Jill Biden echoes ‘unity’ inauguration outfit at Biden’s address to Congress

Jill Biden sported a strikingly similar dress to President Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress as she did to his inauguration.

The first lady was seen Wednesday at the Capitol wearing what appeared to be a dark-colored version of an ensemble by designer Gabriela Hearst. Biden had worn the same or a similar white outfit during the inaugural festivities in January.

Hearst had said at the time that her design — which included embroidered flowers representing every state in the country — was inspired by “the message of unity.”

“The Delaware flower is positioned at the heart level of The First Lady, from there, all the other flowers branch out,” she wrote on Instagram of the original attire.

Jill Biden’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

According to Elle magazine, Hearst has “worked tirelessly to reshape the [fashion] industry in a more sustainable image.” The designer has said her goal is to transition to 100 percent repurposed materials by early 2022. 

During his speech, the president noted Jill Biden’s work as a longtime community college professor, saying she would lead an effort to provide two years of free tuition to such institutions.

His wife, Biden said, “has long said any country that out-educates us is going to outcompete us.”
