Billie Eilish, Nike team up on new vegan Air Jordans
Singer Billie Eilish has teamed up with Nike to design two new pairs of Air Jordans, both of them entirely vegan and made from more than 20 percent recycled material.
“i am SO excited to finally share my two air jordan silhouettes with you!!” Eilish wrote on Instagram, calling it “such an incredible and surreal experience getting to create these.”
The Air Jordan 1 KOs are lime green, a callback to the singer’s once-iconic green hair, while the Air Jordan 15s are a sleek tan, more in line with her “Happier Than Ever” look.
“This color is such a classic, stupid, little ‘old me’ thing, I guess,” Eilish told Nike. “I really wanted to kind of have almost like an ode to myself … this was me, for a while.”
Eilish, a vegan and animal rights activist, also used fashion as a message earlier this month, when she attended the Met Gala in a peach Oscar de la Renta gown that she said she would only wear if the renowned fashion house ceased the use and sale of fur in its clothing.
Oscar de la Renta’s chief executive Alex Bolen said he “thought a lot about what Oscar said — he was a big fan of fur, by the way — that the one thing he really worried about in the fashion business was his eye getting old.”
De la Renta died in 2014.
Bolen ultimately decided to agree with the policy change, saying, “I have to surround myself with people with different points of view.”
Eilish’s two exclusive Air Jordans will be available from her online store starting Monday and on the Nike SNKRS app on Sept. 30.
