GOP may win Byrd’s Senate seat
Now, just a couple of days after the primaries, Rasmussen has just released a shocker — Manchin (D) is at 48 percent and Raese is at 42 percent. Importantly, independents favor Raese over Manchin 45 percent – 40 percent.
A lot can happen in a month and apparently did. West Virginia (my second home) is proof that when it comes to politics, “conventional wisdom” is, as often as not, neither.
{mosads}So confident was Manchin he would easily sail to victory, he placed his long-time chief of staff in the Senate seat as a “placeholder” until he could take care of a few minor details before assuming the office himself. (Minor details include closing out his job as West Virginia governor and winning the U.S. Senate seat.)
But West Virginia voters seem to be saying “Not so fast there, Joe” — and now yet another Senate contest shows up on the political radar as one to watch. At this point, it’s reasonable to expect that West-by-God-Virginia could soon be in the “toss-up” category and go Republican in November.
