The crazy train that is Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy needs to be stopped.
We face a great emergency if Trump gets to the White House. Anyone fool enough to ask a national security expert why we don’t use our nuclear weapons is not fit enough to put his little hands on the suitcase with the launch codes.
We can all agree on this. Deterrence needs to take place. In these times, no one among us can tolerate wicked men.
Since today is President Barack Obama’s birthday, why not let him celebrate, and in the process help the entire nation. Let Obama have a third term. Yes, I said it, a third term. Sound crazy? Well it isn’t any more whacky than the possibility of a Trump presidency. And it can happen. It would take a few steps. The moves Obama would have to take would be a bit jarring to the Republic. But again, has there been anything as jarring in recent political history as the rise of a reality television star to Republican presidential nominee?
So here’s how Obama get his third term and saves America from a national nightmare: the immediate imposition of martial law; suspension of the November election.
Then — and only then — can we get on with the real business of making America great again.
Sure there are those who would argue that such moves fly in the face of our Democracy. There will be no democracy if Trump is elected. Those of us who don’t drink the Trump-branded orange Kool-Aid will be dragged off like crying babies: Muslims, undocumented immigrants, the disabled.
Trump’s leadership style reminds me of a guy who was the international president of a Southern California motorcycle gang. When the guy was challenged, his acolytes would stomp the offender. If the challenge was really egregious, the offender risked being shanked or shot.
Remember the Trump rally where one of his supporters cheap shotted a demonstrator? Why would we not expect more of the same or possibly worse from the Donald in the White House.
So, you don’t like the idea of Obama staying put? Well, it wouldn’t be unprecedented.
FDR had four terms, and the country and more importantly the democracy didn’t miss a beat.
Martial law too scary?
Abraham Lincoln imposed martial law when the very fabric of the nation was threatened by ill will and war.
We emerged from both eras stronger and more free. Obama would be doing us all a favor. And it would likely be temporary, anyway. I don’t think Barack wants to be president for life. Michelle Obama isn’t going for that.
Happy Birthday Mr. President. And do us all a favor, save us from Trump.
