The ‘Hope America Fails’ Republicans
I have not been shy discussing imperfections of our Democratic president and Congress, but make no mistake, I could not invent these Republicans if I tried. They just oppose any policy that would create jobs, which puts their political interest on the side of American economic failure, making them shout like squealing pigs when any sign emerges that the American economy might succeed.
Say what you want about Democrats: Does anyone want to bring the American economy back to the good old days of George W. Bush?
Criticize the president, as I do at times, but does anyone want America to be the land governed by the economic policies of Phil Gramm, the hunger for war embodied by Dick Cheney, the political fearmongering of Karl Rove, the corruption of justice of Alberto Gonzales, with a foreign policy of torture and an economic policy that created this disastrous mess in the first place?
I digress. The real issue is that in my memory I cannot remember any major party that opposed everything constructive, and that did so with a unity reminiscent of the Soviet Politburo of Leonid Brezhnev, and was so deathly afraid of its own extreme wing as congressional Republicans are today, and whose entire rationale and political strategy is to hope America fails.
The Democratic president and Congress have not lived up to my hopes, but the Republican opposition that hopes America fails belongs in Madame Tussauds Wax Museum of politicians should never be given power to impose their negativity, failure and fear again.
Republicans are the party of no that hopes America fails, and the sight of Republicans squirming and wiggling and worrying at any good news for the American economy is a portrait of a party that has nothing to offer the American people.
