Nickeled-and-dimed

Yeah, they do, but it will take about 20 years for me to get one hundred dollars’ worth of bags, so that isn’t it. And as I walked home, I thought about it some more, and I came to this conclusion. I didn’t want those SOBs who run the D.C. government to get an extra nickel of my money.

You see, it was those brilliant government officials in our nation’s capital who dreamed up the nickel tax on each plastic bag used in a District grocery store. I don’t want them to get the satisfaction of using my money for whatever stupid thing they will waste my money on next.

It isn’t just the nickel that bothers me. It is what the government will do with those nickels. I would venture to guess the nickel tax dynamic that afflicted me is hitting many of those angry voters who look like they are going to vote Scott Brown in today in so-called liberal Massachusetts.

Bostonians are getting sick and tired of being nickeled-and-dimed to death by a Democratically dominated Massachusetts state government. And they are even more angry at President Barack Obama’s plan to raise taxes in order to pay for his spending spree.

It is not just the taxes, which tend to be higher in America than almost any other non-socialist country in the world. It is where all those tax dollars are going. The pork, the waste, the corruption, the junkets, the inefficient bureaucrats, the incompetent government, the arrogant politicians. The American people are just sick of it.

When George Bush was president, he cut taxes almost every year. What he didn’t do was cut spending. The result was a dangerously imbalanced budget, which has become even worse under President Obama. The American people are revolting against seeing their nickels being wasted in their hometowns and in their nation’s capital. And that is why for the Democrats, an election that they thought was in the bag is now a real toss-up.
