Iraq Worked Well, So Let’s Bomb Iran
Here we go again.
Congress passes a resolution designating a Muslim country as a terrorist nation, applies tough economic sanctions, and authorizes the Bush administration to take whatever action it deems necessary to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
No, we’re not talking Iraq 2002. We’re talking Iran 2007 — and the Kyl/Lieberman amendment, approved by the Senate 76-22. But it amounts to the same thing: a green light for George Bush and Dick Cheney to launch another pre-emptive strike.
What were 76 senators thinking? What was Hillary Clinton thinking, voting for it? What was Barack Obama thinking, not even voting on it?
After all the lies Bush and Cheney told us about Iraq, do we really think they’re telling us the truth about Iran? One thing we know for sure: No mater how imprecise the wording, give George Bush and Dick Cheney an opening like this, and they’ll use it to start another war. Which is just what they’ll do, if necessary.
After all, another war may be the only way Republicans can possibly win next year. So don’t be surprised. Expect bombs to start falling on Tehran — before November 2008. And 29 Democrats will be partly responsible — for voting for it.
