This is it
Time will tell who the final votes will be, those last Democrats who help the
leadership get from 212 to 216 by Sunday. But it looks like they will get them.
The Democrats know they simply must get them, if they hold out hope of doing
anything. As I wrote in my column this week,
the entire agenda washes away if healthcare goes down.
Sure, even if it passes, the Democrats aren’t likely to be rewarded for passing
healthcare reform anytime soon. They will pay for it at the polls this fall,
and they appear to know it. But if they can’t find the votes and healthcare
becomes a spectacular failure, after a year of wasted time, the Democrats
are sunk for good.
