The Moscow subway bombings

Terrorism now imposes a death sentence for riding on the subway, working in a building, walking on the street at the wrong time and the wrong place, whenever terrorists choose to murder the innocent.

When Americans were murdered on Sept. 11, 2001, Russians and decent people throughout the world stood with us in solidarity. Today, after innocent Russians were murdered this past weekend riding the Moscow subway, Americans and decent people everywhere stand with them in solidarity against the hatred and death done by killers of those who did no wrong and committed no crime.

If the killing of the totally innocent is a trademark crime of our times, the unity of great nations and good people to end this trademark crime of our times should be the paramount goal of a new global alliance for decency.

This global alliance for decency and against death for the innocent should bring greater international and bilateral cooperation on matters political, diplomatic, military and economic.

Not one innocent person should be murdered. Every civilized nation should join together to end this trademark crime of our times.

In this spirit, on Sept. 11, 2001, people around the world said, “We are all Americans.” In this spirit today they say, “We are all Russians.” In this spirit tomorrow they will say they all stand with some other nation where death for the innocent will strike next.

Great nations and great peoples should band together to stop this, paraphrasing Kennedy, not because it is easy, but because it is hard, and because it is right.
