Recently we learned that 2009 was tied for the warmest year in the history of the
planet. The last decade was the warmest decade in the history of the planet. This
week we learned that House Republicans want to raise the federal deficit even higher,
by a significant amount, by repealing healthcare reform.
How do our friends on the right wing react? They deny the facts about climate change
and the truth that the last decade was the warmest in the history of the earth.
Then they deny the Congressional Budget Office analysis of how much the Republican
repeal bill would increase the budget deficit. Then they attack the CBO that has
long been respected by Democrats, Republicans, liberals and conservatives alike.
Here is another fact Republicans won’t like: President Obama’s popularity has been
on the rise since the Republicans took control of the House. They can deny this
fact, too, if they like.
Why is this happening? The president speaks to the nation with a voice of calm moderation
and healing while the right-wing Republicans, who are the loudest voice of the Republican
Party these days, are turning voters with their voices of extremism, lowering of
our civic discourse and denial of facts.
I’d like to see some of the more extreme Republicans at least accept the basic facts
that the last decade was the warmest decade in the history of the earth, and the
Republican healthcare repeal bill would indeed dramatically raise the deficit!
To those Republicans who won’t accept these basic facts, why do you think the most
visible Republican, Sarah Palin, has reached a new high in unpopularity, while the
president is climbing in polls from NBC to even Fox?
