GOP at it again
The Republican Party was headed off a cliff in recent years until Democratic
overreach stabilized the GOP in 2009. Republicans lost in 2006 and began
bickering about everything, from the direction of the country to the direction
of their party to their 2008 presidential nominee to their vice presidential
nominee, and went on to take more electoral beatings in the last election.
Why return to GOP cannibalism now with this disagreement over “repeal and
replace,” or just repeal or partial repeal or repeal then replace with a
bipartisan bill ? And why lie to the voters? It won’t be hard for them to
figure out that with President Obama in office and able to veto repeal, the law
stays. It would take full control of the Congress and the presidency for the
GOP to take this sucker back, so why pretend they can?
Independent voters don’t like death threats and they don’t like political
gimmicks. To win, they must keep those voters, and to keep them, Republicans
should stay on message about the substance of healthcare reform and leave the
rest alone.
