Steele’s Obama complex

Just one thing: Issuing sound bites is not Steele’s job. As chairman he has to
raise money and get people elected. But he seems more concerned with making
himself the story than with managing the party.

What’s more, he can’t get out of his own way. His gaffes overshadow everything
he does to the point that he has alienated big donors and lost the faith of the
rank and file. So will the party can him? Probably not.

Members will be hesitant to vote out their first black leader, even if his
incompetence and egotism are directly affecting GOP efforts.

For a party struggling to distance itself from its history of racial
insensitivity, canning Steele could cause a racial imbroglio.

At the very least, forcing him out would be a distraction when the party should
be capitalizing on the idea that Obama’s massive public spending could bankrupt
the country.
