The clarity of candidate Romney

“I’m not familiar, precisely, with exactly what I said,
but I stand by what I said, whatever it was.”

Candidate Romney might have finished this perceptive remark with”… unless I don’t. Or can’t. Whatever.”

Who’s
his speech writer? George Orwell? His words display a confused mind and
an intellectual compass that has sprung its springs, so confused,
meaningless and representative of a position-less aspirant for
leadership. Whoosh! I’ll say whatever it takes, whatever it means.

Romney’s quote makes the characteristic of flip-flop which his critics have criticized seem laser-like in its precision. Desperate is what candidate Romney is, and embarrassingly imprecise, grasping and empty of ideas. Film editors for the Obama campaign shouldn’t be paid salaries, in view of how much fun they will have putting together the political ad: THE ROMNEY POSITION POINTS.

{mosads}Romney’s prose reminds me of some stanzas of Lewis Carroll’s The Gardener’s Song, for example:

He thought he saw a Rattlesnake
That  questioned him in Greek:
He looked again , and found it was
The Middle of Next Week.
The one thing I regret, he said,
Is that it cannot speak.”
***********
He thought he saw an Argument
That proved that he was Pope:
He looked again, and found that it was
A Bar of Mottled Soap.
A fact so dread, he faintly said,
Extinguishes all hope.

And there is always the timeliness of the colloquy between Alice and Humpty Dumpty in Through The Looking Glass:

“When I use a word”, Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
“The question is”, said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is”, said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be Master — that’s all.”

As Alice said about reading the hard-to-understand poem, “The Jabberwocky,” “Somehow it seems to fill my head with ideas — only I don’t know exactly what they are.”
