Cruz mocks a mourning Biden
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has given new evidence as to why he is widely disliked among his Senate Republican colleagues, why he is not in the top tier of Republican presidential candidates, why I predict he will be one of the first Republican wannabe presidential candidates to drop out of the race, and why he will be defeated for reelection by a Democrat such as Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) if he runs for reelection, which in my view he probably will not.
{mosads}While Vice President Biden was mourning the death of his son Beau Biden, who was a magnificent and widely admired human being and public servant, the hapless Cruz, without common sense or class, chose that moment to make fun of the vice president and joke that mention of his name requires no punch line. This kind of cheap shot was unworthy of a senator, a presidential candidate or a human being with even a minimum of class.
Cruz has now apologized to Biden, but the hurt he caused, the craven and vicious attitude that has become the Cruz trademark, and the lack of minimal political savvy and common sense, explain why his presidential candidacy was doomed at the start and why it is doomed today.
Texas Democrats should immediately begin a “Draft Castro” movement to begin to mobilize support for a race against Cruz by the brilliant and widely respected Joaquin Castro.
Cruz will be out of the presidential sweepstakes early in the game because he will be viewed by Republican leaders and Republican primary voters with the same disdain and disgust with which he is viewed by almost all of his GOP colleagues in the Senate.
Joe Biden is one of the good and great men in public life today.
Beau Biden was a kind, decent, universally respected and widely admired American patriot who served our country in war, served the people of Delaware with distinction and was destined for great things if his life were not cut short so tragically.
Ted Cruz is, by contrast, and to put it simply, someone who will never be elected to high office and will probably be defeated by a Democrat if he runs for reelection to the Senate when his current term thankfully expires.
