The Lesson from the New York Giants
The great comeback by the New York Giants, a team that nobody thought would win the Super Bowl, has an important lesson in it. And no, the lesson is not how the underdog can often prevail.
The Giants were a wildcard team. They didn’t get the time off after the regular season. They didn’t rest and become rusty. They kept it going, and kept winning.
Republicans and John McCain need to learn this lesson well. They can’t take a breather, as much as they want to, while Clinton and Obama slug it out. Because as Clinton and Obama do battle, they will be getting tons of earned media.
John McCain, the master of earned media, needs to stay relevant. He needs to stay on offense. He needs to stay in the game.
Yes, Obama and Clinton will be battling each other. But they will be battling each other through John McCain. They will use McCain as a punching bag to score points with their voters.
So McCain needs to be ready. As does the Republican National Committee.
I kind of wish Huckabee would stay in the race just to keep McCain sharp for the Democrats.
Earned media has been king in this nominating process. McCain’s town hall meetings. Hillary’s tears. Obama’s speeches. Huckabee’s television appearances.
Staying on offense will be critical during this down time in the Republican nominating process.
