My VP Choice

I know it is too early to be talking about who our vice presidential candidate should be, especially since we don’t have a presidential candidate yet. That means it is the perfect to time to give you my VP choice.

We need a vice presidential candidate who is good on the stump.

We need somebody who has a lot of energy.

We need somebody who has a reputation for honesty.

We need somebody who knows how the White House works.

We need somebody who knows how the Hill works.

We need somebody who can unite the party.

We need somebody who can reach out to Democrats and independents.

We need somebody who can bird-dog issues that are important to voters.

We need somebody who is young, because our presidential candidate is probably going to be pretty old.

We need somebody who comes from an important swing state.

The guy I have in mind is Rob Portman.

He is young, or at least he looks young.

He is smart. He is energetic. He has great experience in the White House and on the Hill.

He has a great history of working with Democrats on issues like retirement security and tax reform.

He can debate with the best of them, but never looks pompous or angry.

He is reasonable and rational and responsible.

He is from Ohio, a very important swing state.

He knows trade inside and out. He knows how to reform the bureaucracy.

He is a great family man.

He is the future of the party.
