The Middle Ground
Without my posts and predictions to laugh at, well, there would be far less to laugh at. That’s all I can say for listening to pollsters and pundits as we all did. I get paid to come up with the most likely scenario and as of today I am still employed. Keep watching the blog just to check, however …
Hillary Clinton’s blow-out in New Hampshire and John McCain’s phoenix-like rise from the smoldering ashes of his once-front-runner status and subsequent political death are amazing stories. I am a huge sucker for comebacks and am also quite susceptible to Underdog Fever, which has afflicted me for weeks.
In both parties the game is on, the fun awaits. In the race for ’08 there will be no coronations, no slow walks, just surges and surprises. Candidates will fight hard to earn the majority of delegates; voters will be directly and strenuously engaged. And the middle, that lonely place in American politics, will be paramount. Independents and swing voters, as well as centrist leaders in both parties, will be consulted and courted. All great news.
Amen.
