Where’s the Puppy?
Obama has reneged on yet another campaign promise. This time, his promise to line-item veto earmarks in spending bills is the victim. Eliminating earmarks has long been one of the top priorities of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), so of course, Obama had to try to neutralize it as an issue of disagreement with his Republican opponent during the presidential campaign.
We’ve seen the transparency promise fall by the wayside, along with his pledge to end the practice of lobbyists writing legislation — that happened when the stimulus bill was written behind closed doors and lobbyists got to see it before Republican lawmakers were allowed to. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made him do it.
He was less than truthful when he said he would not have lobbyists serve in his administration. But, well, you know — everybody does it, so he figured he would get away with it, too, conveniently forgetting he spoke often of it during his campaign.
Obama promised an ethical and scandal-free administration, but still allows tax cheats to serve in his Cabinet.
He is tap-dancing around his promise not to try to take away guns from law-abiding citizens.
Based on their father’s track record with keeping his promises from the campaign, Sasha and Malia had better not count on getting that puppy anytime soon …
