Methinks He Doth Protest Too Much

Karl, Karl, Karl, you are so transparent. Bash Hillary at every turn and you know it helps her with the Democratic base. You are about as respected and beloved as Dick Cheney … and you know it. So the more you rail against Hillary, the more the Democratic base, and the moderates and independents, flock to her.

The old double bank shot works in pool but not as well in politics. Bash the candidate you most want to run against. Remember 1980, when the Democrats were convinced that Ronald Reagan would be the easiest Republican to beat? Oops. He not only rolled to an easy victory but took 12 Republicans to the Senate with him, giving the GOP control for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Be careful what you wish for — you may be whining next spring that Hillary Clinton is not so “fatally flawed” after all. Her positives are going up and her negatives are going down and, Karl, you know how to read polls.

If you are such a genius, how has the Republican Party ended up in such total disarray? Why is the Bush administration likely to go down in history as possibly the worst presidency in the history of the republic? The 2008 elections, which you seem to be trying to wash your hands of, could very well be a watershed, just like your beloved 1896 McKinley election, except devastating for your Republican Party. And who would lead the Democrats back to a governing majority? Yup, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
