Since when does the flow of icebergs take precedence over counterterrorism?

Now there are reports alleging that the Obama administration
is diverting CIA resources to research global warming. Apparently, the jig goes
something like this: The Obama administration is using CIA intelligence-gathering
capabilities to track climate change, and then funneling select information to
scientists in order to prop up the global warming debate.

This is an outrage. First, the mandate of the CIA prohibits
it from engaging in domestic activities. The purpose of that mandate is to
safeguard the rights and freedoms of the American people against foreign
incursion. Get it? The CIA is supposed to shield the American people. The fact
that Obama is co-opting the agency to inject his political agenda into the
global warming debate is an alarming abuse of power.

This rousing point is not lost on the CIA’s counterterrorism
experts, who are all the more outraged because President Obama blamed the CIA
for failing to prevent Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab — the Nigerian citizen who
attempted to blow up a crowded Detroit-bound airplane on Christmas Day — from
boarding the plane.

Maybe the CIA would be better at “connecting the dots” if
its analysts weren’t being diverted to help track the flow of icebergs.
