While most wrote the incident off as simply funny, and hey, the president wasn’t hurt, the issue was that it wasn’t just about him. There were wall-to-wall dignitaries and elected officials, along with their spouses and loved ones at that party for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and each and every one of them were vulnerable due to the security lapse. Rogers was too preoccupied with being at the party to actually mix and mingle and play the role of guest and good friend of the POTUS and FLOTUS, and didn’t do her job. As it turns out, that’s not a luxury a White House social secretary can afford, no matter how close she is to the Obamas. Her incompetence put everyone in danger.

Not surprisingly, Rogers’s resignation or firing or whatever it is came late on a Friday, obviously an attempt for it to go relatively unnoticed by the media.

As expected, the Chicago crowd will fall by the wayside, one by one. I wonder which day of the week we will hear the same news about White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel?
