The dissed robed justice

People can argue whether the president’s remarks were a bit tacky, under the circumstances, but hey, Justice Alito, if you can’t take the heat, stay in your ivory tower.

Compare that to the actions, or lack thereof, by the Joint Chiefs, sitting in their uniforms a few feet away. They had to be equally uncomfortable when Obama called out “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” Did they react? Did their expressions show anything? Did they even move? No, they did not. They looked for all the world like they were exhibits in a wax museum.

Meanwhile, there you were with your colleagues, in your judge uniforms, unable to contain yourself. That wasn’t very judicial of you, now was it?

Come to think of it, maybe this was a good thing. Maybe it finally puts to rest the phony claim that you and your colleagues are the impartial “Umpires” your crew chief described.

The obvious truth is you are as political as all get-out. You have an ideological agenda. You get to impose it because you have the last word. And you do it with relish.

You may have lifetime appointments, but that does not excuse you from life. There is nothing sacred about you and your colleague justices. You put your robes on the same way we all do.

As for all those Washington types who are so puckered about openly poking the Supremes, let’s remember the immortal words of John Riggins: “Loosen up.”
