Lawmakers celebrate Small Business Saturday

Members of Congress took to Twitter Saturday to celebrate small businesses in their district as part of “Small Business Saturday,” an effort to get shoppers to support local businesses.

While many are encouraging their followers to go out and shop local on Saturday, a few are doing so themselves and posting to the social media site to prove it.

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) tweeted that she was shopping at Country Village, a collection of shops in Bothell, Washington.

Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) wrote about shopping at a pharmacy and gift shop in his district.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) told his followers about his Small Business Saturday shopping, which began shortly after 10 a.m.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) spent his Saturday tweeting out pictures of him shopping with constituents, tweeting about his state’s small business economy and engaging with his actively engaged followers.

Other officials promoted their Small Business Saturday shopping. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder spent part of his Saturday at Union Markey in D.C.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, former mayor of Charlotte, N.C., tweeted out a picture of himself shopping at the Charlotte Running Company.
