Murkowski ad slams Miller for measuring drapes before Nov.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who is waging a write-in campaign against GOP primary victor Joe Miller, released a radio ad Friday that leaps on his musings — now deleted — on Twitter about moving to Washington, D.C., as Alaska’s new senator.
“While in Washington collecting money from all those ‘insiders’ all week, Joe tweeted that he was going to do some house-hunting, buy office furniture and get a name plaque for his Senate office door,” the ad states.
“Wait a minute, Joe … you might want to wait until you hear from the 88 percent of us back here in Alaska who didn’t vote for you. That plaque on the door still reads: MUR-KOW-SKI.”
Miller was in Washington this week for fundraising events and meetings with Republican officials.
“Think I’ll do some house hunting while I’m in DC,” he tweeted Thursday (see below). “Guess I should pick up some office furniture as well … Then there’s the matter of a name plaque for the door. My sincere appreciation for the warm welcome, including from future colleagues in DC.”
The posts, blamed on a volunteer, have been deleted from his feed.
Scott McAdams, the Democrat in the race, fired back.
“@JoeWMiller: While you’re in DC picking out office furniture, I’m in Anchorage introducing my plan to get Alaskans back to work,” he tweeted.
This isn’t the first time Miller has been caught making a gaffe on Twitter — a post, now deleted, from Aug. 27 compared Murkowski’s potential write-in bid to prostitution.
“What’s the difference between selling out your party’s values and the oldest profession?” it read.
A poll released Wednesday showed Murkowski and Miller in a statistical dead heat, at 36-38. Another showed Murkowksi ahead by 11 points.
