Rep. Polis discusses pot, drug laws on Reddit

Polis answered a number of questions over his position on marijuana, noting that he did not partake because “[he] like[s] reality too much,” but he believed that several other members did. He also said that “the law enforcement industrial complex” was impeding efforts to legalize marijuana, as well as “all those on the gravy train of the drug war.”

In addition, he said that marijuana users posting social network updates and photos declaring that they were “high because it’s legal” did not help the cause.

Rep. Polis also criticized Michele Leonhart, administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency, calling her performance during policy hearings last summer “hugely disappointing.”

“I am kind of shocked she is still in her job,” Polis wrote. “To have that level of ignorance (or willful misleading us) does not exactly inspire confidence in our top drug enforcement officer.”

{mosads}When asked if he agreed with Bill Gates—who also recently posted an AMA—that “higher is better, he quipped that “Much of [his] district is more than 5,000 feet above sea level and [he] also represent[s] mountains that are well over 10,000 feet.”

Rep. Polis also took time in a few of his answers to briefly plug No Labels, a national group that is committed to non-partisan problem solving, directing questioners to the organization’s website.

Questions also delved into personal matters. When asked if he ever got tired of hearing about his wealth, Polis responded that he was tired of hearing “How rich I am, how gay I am, how Jewish I am, how handsome I am.”

“Well,” he added in parentheses, “maybe not so much that last one.”

Polis also said that he got along fine with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and said he had not experienced any discrimination from fellow congressmen.

After one user declared the Congressman “perfect for Reddit,” the Polis replied “at least I’m perfect for something.”

He also told one user to send him a private message, and said he would add him as a friend on League of Legends, a popular online multiplayer game.
