{mosads}The tweet was echoed on Wednesday by Obama’s Twitter account — which Organizing for Action, the pro-Obama nonprofit group, writes — comes as Obama seeks to pass new gun restriction laws, including universal background checks on gun sales and an assault weapons ban. One of Organizing for Action’s current top priorities is helping to pass Obama’s gun proposals.
A subsequent tweet by Ono’s account, which included the same picture of Lennon’s glasses, read: “31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone.”
Lennon was killed in New York City when he was shot by Mark David Chapman.
On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he would bring a proposal for universal background checks for all gun purchases up for a vote. The measure currently lacks support by Republicans although Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) hopes to attract a Republican co-sponsor.
