Palin: Don’t let White House ‘distract you’ from Bernanke press conference
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) called on the media to concede that real estate mogul Donald Trump forced President Obama to release his birth certificate.
She then urged them to move on to more substantive topics.
“Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, don’t let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused, eh?” Palin tweeted Wednesday.
{mosads}Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is scheduled to host his first press conference later Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning the White House released photocopies of Obama’s long-form birth certificate, once again debunking rumors perpetuated by the “birther” movement that Obama was not born in the United States and is therefore ineligible to be president.
Trump, who is considering running for president in 2012, has been one of the most outspoken media figures claiming there was evidence that Obama was not born in the U.S. and urging him to release his birth certificate. Obama had released a copy during the 2008 presidential campaign.
“Today I am very proud of myself, because I’ve accomplished something that nobody else was able to accomplish,” Trump said at a press conference soon after the White House released the long-form certificates.
Palin’s tweet came moments after Trump’s comments.
At a White House press conference Wednesday morning, Obama said he hoped this would finally put the rumors for rest once and for all.
“We’ve got better stuff to do. I’ve got better stuff to do,” Obama said.
