The White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend, via Twitter

Before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner even began, Twitter was buzzing with the “#whcd” and “#nerdprom” hashtags — the self-mocking nickname Washington’s twitterati use for the dinner, which is the big night on the capital’s social scene.

With all the press real estate mogul Donald Trump has been getting lately, a fair share of tweets were about him. Trump is a guest at The Washington Post’s table.

Roll Call associate editor Paul Singer, an investigative journalist, wondered if the journalists in attendance could keep work and play separate.

“Can you party w/a politician Sat nite; investigate his $$ on Mon? http://wapo.st/mLBDD9 #nerdprom #HowGovtWorks,” Singer also tweeted Friday.

Mother Jones Washington Bureau chief David Corn wondered if Trump could make a headline grabbing gaffes before the dinner.

“Which reminds me: with 28 hours to go before #nerdprom, #Trump can still do even more to embarrass his WaPo hosts. Any predictions, mf’ers?,” Corn tweeted

Still other tweets were about the seating arrangements of some of the other dinner guests. A few also had to do with a “pre-game” party hosted by The New Yorker magazine. Here is a roundup of some fun or funny tweets of before the Saturday night event:

On Friday journalist Ned Resnikoff wondered whether the avant garde thing to do is to not want to go to the dinner.

So I guess the cool new #nerdprom thing is to act like you’re too cool for #nerdprom. http://politi.co/imHEt3 #hipsterpolitico,” Resnikoff tweeted Friday.

ABC News senior Washington news editor Rick Klein wondered if Politico reporter Patrick Gavin was telling the truth when Gavin said that the festivities really weren’t that fun.

“@pwgavin tells us: “I hate this weekend.” calling on Patrick’s friends – do you believe him? #nerdprom http://abcn.ws/lGrsHB,” Klein tweeted

Another Twitter user wondered what Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), liberal firebrand Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) and former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele were doing at the same table.

“Gov. Rick Perry, @RepWeiner, @Joan_Rivers & Michael Steele will all be sitting together at Politico’s table at #nerdprom. Um, what?”

New York Observer political reporter Azi Paybarah wondered what would come of New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and Trump being in attendance.

“.@MikeBloomberg will be at White House Correspondence Dinner. So will @realDonaldTrump. Insert your jokes here. #nerdprom,” Paybarah tweeted.

New York media blogger Rachel Sklar reported an odd discovery at Friday’s New Yorker party.

“Best part of last night’s @NewYorker party: a secret room with Chicken & Waffles!! Mmm. Also, #nofilter #nerdprom http://instagr.am/p/DtCHW/,” Sklar wrote.

At a charity brunch prior to the dinner strategist Daniel Kohns tweeted about an unfortunate run in with News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch and wondered about the consequences.

“Just spilled salad dressing on Rupert Murdoch. Over/under on my lifespan? #nerdprom,” Kohns tweeted Saturday.
