Murkowski celebrates Alaskan holiday with beer
{mosads}Alaska Day is the anniversary of the formal transfer of the territory from Russia to the U.S. in 1867, according to the state’s economic development website. The signing of the treaty to purchase the territory took place earlier that March and is celebrated as Seward Day, after then-Secretary of State William Seward.
To celebrate that holiday in March, Murkowski tweeted a more formal picture of a replica $7.2 million check that bought the territory.
Murkowski was joined by fellow Alaskan Sen. Mark Begich (D) and Rep. Don Young (R), along with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) in noting the occasion on Twitter.
