Cantor, Hoyer offices battle over 2012 House calendar

{mosads}Hoyer and Pelosi blasted the new calendar earlier in the day for not scheduling enough work days.

Hoyer called it “more of the same” from Republicans while Pelosi suggested in a hashtag that it “really makes you wonder.”

“The House will be in session more days than it was under Dem control,” Cantor’s press office fired back.

Hoyer’s office responded: “.@CantorPress, you mean days like today when last votes started before 11am and we jetted out of town for the week?”

Cantor’s office: “@HoyerPress We’ll let the #facts do the talking: 800 [roll call] votes this year vs 565 last year – another reason to call on @SenateDems to act!”

According to the Library of Congress, the House was in session 119 times in 2008, during the second session of the 110th Congress when the Democrats had control of the House.

But that includes pro forma days – days in which Congress meets for only a few seconds but it’s still recorded in the congressional record. Excluding pro forma days, the House met 104 times in 2008 versus the 109 days the House will meet under the 2012 schedule.
