Maybe Batkid can save Washington’s plunging poll numbers.
On Friday afternoon, more than 12,000 volunteers helped turn the city of San Francisco into Gotham City as a 5-year-old child lived out his dream of becoming Batman. The scenes of Batkid — accompanied by a regular sized Batman — roaming the city quickly went viral.
{mosads}Through Twitter, Democrats and Republicans in Congress — many representing California — cheered him on along the way.
Even the White House told the 5-year-old Miles to “go get ‘em.” The Make-A-Wish Foundation helped organize the event for Miles, who’s Leukemia has been in remission since the summer.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), a Batman fanatic who has appeared in two of the films, weighed in with his expert opinion.
GOP Reps. Justin Amash (Mich.) and Darrell Issa (Calif.) — who are prolific tweeters — rooted him on.
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who is a cancer survivor, said if you are not following him, you are missing out.
The Democratic Party provided the theme music — or at least a readout.
Both California Senators — Barbara Boxer (D) and Dianne Feinstein (D) — chimed in.
California Rep. Doris Matsui (D) applauded Batkid for stopping the Riddler, who attempted to rob a vault.
A news conference between Batkid and the San Francisco mayor will be held later in the day. He will be presented with the key to the city.
