Virginia lawmakers pray for Creigh Deeds

A number of Virginia’s congressional delegation expressed prayers for Creigh Deeds and his family Tuesday after a report spread about a fatal attack at his home.

{mosads}Deeds was stabbed multiple times to his head and torso in the attack, state police said. His son, Gus, was found with a gunshot wound and was declared dead at the scene.

Deeds, a Democrat, currently serves as a Virginia state senator, and ran for governor of the state in 2009. Current Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), whose term ends at the end of the year, defeated Deeds in that race.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D), who previously served as Virginia’s governor, reacted to the news on Twitter.

Republican Rep. Randy Forbes, who once served with Deeds in the Virginia legislature, said he was praying for him.

Gov. McDonnell tweeted, “I urge all Virginians today to join me in praying for @CreighDeeds.” Sen. Mark Warner (D), who also served as governor, agreed.
